QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Graduate -- 18 years of age
Experience: 1 year Lifeguard experience preferred
Skills: Thorough knowledge of all Lifeguard skills. Testing will take place during orientation and periodically throughout the summer.
Special equipment training: All rescue equipment
Physical Effort: Good physical condition. Swimming tests will be given during orientation such as 500 yard swim in under 10 minutes
Pressure/Stress: The responsibility for the lives of all facility users
Special Training:Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate or equivalent, CPR certificate (for professional rescuer), Lifeguard and Standard First Aid certificates are required.

Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Pool Director you are responsible for assisting in the following:
Safety of facility users
a. Prevention of aquatic emergency and injury
b. Verbally communicate rules to campers including “all out of pool” system
c. Enforcement of pool rules
d. Perform lifeguard duties at pool and special aquatic events, i.e., log rolling, beach, creek games
Emergency and injury procedures
a. Know procedures and follow through, if needed
b. Study and practice procedures regularly
c. Emergency scenarios and tests
d. Record all incidents and accidents
Equip and supply inspection and inventory
a. Inspect rescue equipment and report defects
b. Maintain pool cleaning and filter equipment
c. Inventory and organize supplies
Pool cleaning and chemical balance
a. Maintain appropriate pool water chemical balance
b. Skim and vacuum pool regularly
c. Follow specific procedures (daily and weekly)
d. Keep accurate records in log book
Maintain pool restroom cleanliness
a. Keep restrooms stocked with paper products
b. Clean and sanitize all surfaces
c. Empty waste receptacles
